A former neighbor gave us this brass cup. It is 4 1/2 inches tall with a
wooden handle. The hand engraved inscription on the bottom is difficult to
read, but it is M-22563 CA. Do you have any idea what it is? I do not care about value -- doubt if there is any. I'll probably give it to my son-in-law who was in Civil War Reenactment for 25 years.
The cup looks like a copper "Cezeve" (in Turkish) or "Briki" (in Greek) It's used to make Turkish / Greek style coffee. You measure grounds directly into the cup, add water and boil the whole mess until it has the consistency of mud (or however you like your coffee)
The number on the bottom looks like an inventory tag - probably from an antique dealer.
Having just returned from Thessaloniki, Greece, I can tell you that similar ones are sold in shops and market stalls all over the city for less than $10.00. Iām not a reenactor, but it seems to me this cup would be perfect for a Civil War re-enactor to use to brew coffee over an open fire.
